Bay is one of the oldest municipalities in Laguna, serving as its first capital. Languidly wrapping around the shores of Laguna de Bay, the town is often presumed to have derived its name from the country's largest lake.

The reality is quite the opposite, however: the name of Bay precedes that of the lake, and Laguna de Bay itself was named after the town. Located southeast of Metro Manila, Laguna is contiguous to the central business district. On favorable days, the town is a pleasant one-and-a-half-hour drive from the capital region.
